Demonstrates effects of fluid shear stress on tumor behavior in ovarian cancer, implying better treatment strategies.
Ovarian cancer remains a leading cause of death among gynecologic malignancies, with ascites-associated disease linked to particularly poor outcomes. Treatment resistance and recurrence continue to limit clinical success. Fluid shear stress (FSS) generated by ascitic fluid movement has emerged as a key regulator of tumor behavior and therapeutic response. To better study these effects and enable the development of improved treatments, this work presents the development, characterization, and optimization of a 24-channel perfusion model that replicates ascites-associated FSS.
