Retrospective analysis shows glycemic improvements in 12,000 non-insulin treated adults, indicating benefits of Stelo use.
Introduction and Objective: The Stelo glucose biosensor is an over-the-counter CGM for use in adults not on insulin that provides glucose insights on diet and exercise. This study describes glycemic outcomes over 6 months from a cohort of Stelo users with self-reported T2D. Methods: This retrospective analysis included 12,008 Stelo users ≥18 years (mean age 57 years, 54% men), who reported T2D not on insulin (NIT) and had ≥90 days of Stelo use, and baseline time in range (TIR) 70-180 mg/dL ≤70%. Change in CGM metrics and hyperglycemic excursions (the number of events with glucose levels >180 mg/dL for ≥2 hours) from baseline to 3 and 6 months were analyzed. Results: Compared to baseline, significant improvement was observed at 3 months with continued improvement at 6 months (Table) for all CGM metrics not at target values at baseline. The number of glycemic excursions over 10 days decreased from 14.2 (5.4) at baseline to 10.2 (6.5) at 6 months with the duration decreasing by 214.0 minutes. Conclusion: In this large, real-world study of 12,000 Stelo users with suboptimally controlled T2D NIT, Stelo use was associated with meaningful improvements in glycemic control over 6 months with decreased glycemic excursions, suggesting potential benefits of Stelo to provide behavioral insights to support glucose management.
