Research review examines vibration fatigue in reusable spacecraft, highlighting factors affecting life and damage mechanisms.
Reusable spacecraft face more severe vibration fatigue issues compared to traditional single‐use spacecraft due to their repeated launch and re‐entry conditions. Based on the unique loading characteristics of reusable spacecraft, this paper systematically reviews key issues and research progress in the field of vibration fatigue. It examines how critical factors such as loading frequency and damping characteristics influence vibration fatigue life and further compares the differences between vibration fatigue and conventional fatigue in terms of fatigue properties and damage mechanisms. Moreover, the study analyzes existing vibration fatigue damage models and life prediction methods while systematically elucidating the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches. Additionally, this paper summarizes accelerated testing methods and damage diagnosis techniques for vibration fatigue. Finally, addressing the design requirements for reusability and damage tolerance, the paper investigates residual stiffness degradation models and residual life prediction methodologies.
