Review explores the use of oracle cards to enhance our relationship with nature and ourselves, suggesting a rewilding approach.
Sherry Salman’s and Alexandra Eldridge’s The Oracle of Rewilding, a collection of forty-four oracle cards with accompanying textual commentary, offers itself as a method for re-envisioning our relationship to the natural world as well as our own inner untamed nature. Salman’s erudite and evocative essays amplify Eldridge’s surreal images. The juxtaposition of images and words proposes new ways of rewilding ourselves through connecting inner and outer nature, including suggestions for reading the cards. This review places the imagery of the oracle deck within a larger context of human-animal relationships from prehistoric times to the present.
