Abstract In this work, an effort has been made to reduce surface wear loss of AA 8011 material by using nanoparticle‐incorporated lubrication. Ag incorporated Jatropha Oil was used as lubricant in this study. Using Pin on Disc tribo‐wear equipment, experiments were conducted by using AA8011 as the pin material, as per ASTM G99 standards. The important tribo‐wear process parameters such as Load on pin (in N), Speed of disc rotation (rpm), and percentage of Ag addition in Jatropha Oil were varied so as to reduce surface wear and wear mass loss. Using a central composite design matrix, 20 experiments were conducted with different process parameter values. The Al8011 pin samples were weighed before and after conducting tribo‐wear tests and the mass loss in grams was found. Using surface roughness testing equipment, the surface wear in μm was observed. Using Analysis of variance, the significance of the developed Al8011 tribo‐wear model was ascertained. Using response surface methodology, the optimized tribo‐wear process parameters were found to be 49.79 N of Pin Load, 237.8 rpm of Disc Speed, and 0.37% wt. addition of Ag Nano particle so as to obtain minimum wear loss of 1.149 mg and 231.75 μm of surface roughness, which was validated to a very high predictability. The grain modifications and surface variations in the AA8011 material due to wear on the Ag Nano particle added Jatropha Oil were evaluated by using Scanning Electron Microscopy.
