Review highlights pharmacological applications of 1,3-oxazine derivatives, suggesting therapeutic potential.
The search for safer and more effective therapeutic agents has increased interest inheterocyclic compounds with diverse biological activities. Among them, 1,3-oxazinederivatives have emerged as an important class of compounds in medicinal andpharmaceutical chemistry due to their remarkable pharmacological potential. 1,3-Oxazinesare six-membered heterocyclic compounds containing one oxygen and one nitrogen atom inthe ring system. These compounds exhibit a wide spectrum of biological activities such asanticancer, antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antitubercular, antimalarial,anti-HIV, antidiabetic, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties. Several oxazine-basedderivatives have also shown promising activity as enzyme inhibitors and therapeutic agentsfor various diseases. In addition to their biological importance, 1,3-oxazine derivativespossess significant synthetic versatility and are widely used in medicinal chemistry researchfor the development of novel drug molecules. Clinically important drugs such as Ifosfamideand Efavirenz further emphasize the therapeutic significance of the oxazine nucleus. Thisreview highlights the chemistry, properties, synthesis, and pharmacological applications of1,3-oxazine derivatives and provides useful information for future research in thedevelopment of biologically active oxazine-based compounds.
