Analyzes seismic behavior in dam-foundation systems, suggesting improved safety assessments.
This study presents a methodology for analyzing wave radiation and energy transfer in a dam–foundation–seismic source system. A formulation for heterogeneous viscoelastic media is developed to account for internal damping and energy dissipation in the dynamic response. The method evaluates seismic behavior considering fault-controlled wave propagation and dam-rock interaction. A case study of the Pskem Earth Dam demonstrates the importance of heterogeneity, rheological properties, and fault geometry in seismic safety assessment.
