Manipulative experiments reveal that increased unripe-to-ripe fruit ratios enhance frugivory in birds, suggesting improved dispersal success.
Plants dispersed by visually oriented frugivores may enhance fruit detection through bicolored displays. Using manipulative experiments, I show that higher proportions of unripe fruits, rather than bicolored display alone, increase frugivory. This increased visual contrast amplifies ripe fruit conspicuousness and may serve as an efficient mechanism that enhances dispersal success.
