Characterizes magnetic interactions in pre-main sequence stars with companions, implying implications for protoplanetary evolution.
The characterization of the magnetospheres of pre-main sequence stars with exoplanets and low-mass companions is crucial for understanding how they interact with their natal environments, including their impact on the evolution of companions and protoplanetary disks. We used circular polarization observations to study magnetic fields and magnetospheres of nearly face-on and low-inclination PMS stars, some of them known to host planets and low-mass companions. Using dynamical spectra of emission hydrogen lines, we were able for the first time to create snapshots of the magnetospheres of four PMS stars. For one of these PMS stars, we carried out the first 2D MHD simulations of its magnetosphere, using the NIRVANA code.
