Examines thermal efficiency of PV panels with greenery in urban areas, suggesting enhanced energy solutions.
Amid the escalating challenges of global climate change and the energy crisis. In Taiwan, solar photovoltaic (PV) generation accounts for nearly half of the total renewable energy output and plays a central role in national energy transition policies, with the government actively promoting rooftop PV systems. Literature has substantiated that integrating PV panels with green roofs, leveraging the evapotranspiration and shading, effectively lowers panel temperatures, enhances thermal comfort, and boosts generation efficiency. The research employs Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to examine the microclimatic impact of two vertical clearances (40cm and 70cm) and two array arrangement (perpendicular and parallel arrangements). This research results demonstrate that the 70cm clearance scheme generally performs more favorably than the 40cm scheme, confirming that a greater vertical clearance between the PV panels and the green layer facilitates better air circulation and conditions for rooftop platform ambient temperature. This finding supports the potential of green roofs in mitigating PV thermal load and provides a crucial reference for future localized implementation in metropolitan areas.
