Explores membranous nephropathy in systemic lupus erythematosus, suggesting autoimmune links.
Although the M-type phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R) associated membranous nephropathy (MN) is typically primary, 1 it can occur secondary to autoimmune diseases.MN in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) typically has exostocin-1/exostocin-2 as target antigens followed by NELL1 and NCAM1. 1 Emerging evidence implicates PLA2R with lupus-MN.Garcia-Vives et al. demonstrated circulating anti-PLA2R in 18.9% of lupus-MN. 2Another study reported PLA2R-associated primary-MN preceding subsequent SLE development.
