Randomized trial compares hold-relax and tendinous pressure techniques on calf tone in stroke patients, indicating improvements in recovery.
AbstractBackground:Typically, the spasticity develops in calf muscles following stroke which leadsequinovarus deformity of foot, limitation of range of ankle dorsiflexion causing difficulty inambulation and maintaining balance. Poor balance and faulty gait can increase the risk of fall instroke patient. So, it is important to reduce the calf muscles’ spasticity for faster and effectiverecovery.Considering this as a prime need, the current study was planned to compare the effectof Hold-Relax Stretching techniqueand Tendinous Pressure techniqueon calf muscle toneinpatients with stroke.Materials and methods-As per the selection criteria, 70 stroke patients(men and women) were selected and equally divided into two groups (Group A and Group B).Demographic data was collected along with the initial calf muscle toneonthe Modified AshworthScale (MAS).Then, the 4 weeks intervention ofHold-Relax Stretching technique was given toGroup Aand Tendinous Pressure technique in Group B respectively.Calf muscle tone wasreassessed on MAS and interpreted at the end of 4 weeks.
