Randomized trial investigates the impact of ferrite/austenite ratio on pitting corrosion resistance in 2507 super duplex stainless steel, suggesting microstructural optimization could enhance...
In this study, the pitting corrosion behavior of 2507 super duplex stainless steel (SDSS) produced by the laser powder‐directed energy deposition (LP‐DED) process was investigated in both as‐built and heat treated (HT) conditions. Compared with the wrought SDSS and HT LP‐DED SDSS, the as‐built LP‐DED SDSS exhibits an increase in the ferrite content of approximately 75%. For HT LP‐DED SDSS specimens, potentiodynamic polarization tests revealed that the pitting potential decreased with increasing heat treatment temperature. The Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) was calculated for each phase in each material examined in this study to elucidate the relationship between microstructure and pitting corrosion resistance.
