Randomized trial examines community development outcomes from sustainable mining practices in Ghana, highlighting the role of environmental protection and trust.
This study examines the effects of sustainable mining practices (SMPs), the adoption of green technology, health and safety standards, and local procurement initiatives on community development in Ghana's Obuasi Municipality. Using 305 responses analyzed with SmartPLS‐SEM, the research also investigates the mediating roles of environmental protection (EP) and community trust (CT), as well as the moderating effects of resource availability and regulatory enforcement. Results reveal that all three SMPs significantly enhance local community development (LCD), with local procurement being the most influential. Both EP and CT significantly mediate the SMP → LCD relationship, indicating that ecological management and stakeholder trust are vital channels for sustainable outcomes. Furthermore, resource availability strengthens the effects of green technology and procurement, while regulatory enforcement amplifies the influence of EP and CT. The findings underscore the importance of robust regulations, sufficient resources, and community engagement in promoting sustainable development through mining.
