Explores lymphorrhoea management in adults, highlighting dressing effectiveness and care strategies.
Lymphorrhoea, the leakage of lymph fluid through the skin, is a distressing consequence of chronic oedema and lymphoedema. It is frequently under-recognised, leading to maceration, infection, delayed wound healing and reduced quality of life. This article provides an overview of the aetiology, risk factors, clinical impact, assessment and evidence-based management of lymphorrhoea in adults. It emphasises the importance of holistic care, including skin protection, positioning and activity, timely therapeutic compression and appropriate use of dressings. The role of superabsorbent dressings, particularly ConvaMax™ Superabsorber, is explored in detail, highlighting their capacity to maintain periwound skin integrity under compression and reduce the burden of care. Nurses play a central role in implementing immediate and necessary interventions within structured pathways to improve patient outcomes and experiences.
