Bibliometric analysis reveals research trends in AI and IoT applications for agriculture, indicating growth and gaps in thematic focus.
India's objective of achieving a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047 requires revolutionary innovation across all sectors, with agriculture standing as a cornerstone of this national ambition. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) have emerged as critical facilitators of smart and precision agriculture, presenting new prospects to modernize farming operations, enhance food security, and improve rural lifestyles. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of academic literature on AI and IoT applications in agriculture, leveraging data from the OpenAlex database to map research trends, identify major authors, and find new topics pertinent to India's Viksit Bharat 2047 goals. The study carefully evaluates publishing trends, authorship networks, citation structures, keyword co-occurrences, and theme clusters to present a holistic view of the global and Indian intellectual scene. Findings suggest an exponential surge in publications since 2017, with key research subjects including precision farming, crop disease detection, soil health monitoring, drone-based surveillance, and real-time data analytics. The analysis shows considerable research gaps in Indian-context studies and policy-level integration, emphasizing crucial paths for further exploration. This bibliometric study provides as a knowledge pathway for researchers, policymakers, and agricultural stakeholders devoted to harnessing AI and IoT for a self-reliant and affluent India by 2047.
