One of the main causes of permanent blindness, glaucoma, primarily affects elderly persons. Conventional treatments, including medications, laser therapy, and surgical interventions, often encounter challenges related to patient compliance and adverse effects. This narrative review evaluates the efficacy and safety of the FDA-approved iDose™ TR implant, an innovative intraocular device designed for sustained release of travoprost to control intraocular pressure (IOP) in glaucoma patients. Clinical trials have demonstrated that the iDose™ TR implant significantly lowers IOP with minimal adverse effects, addressing the long-term need for improved patient adherence and quality of life. The implant’s unique design ensures a continuous release of medication, reducing the necessity of daily eye drop use and frequent follow-up visits. Future research should focus on optimizing drug release kinetics, enhancing biocompatibility, and integrating real-time IOP monitoring. The iDose™ TR implant represents a promising advancement in glaucoma treatment, potentially transforming the standard of care and offering a more effective and patient-friendly alternative to traditional therapies.
