Reveals no archaeological features in Ardingly College's new car park site, indicating previous truncation.
Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Savills Heritage and Townscape, on behalf of Ardingly College, to undertake an archaeological evaluation at a parcel of land located at Ardingly College, 1 College Road, Ardingly, Haywards Heath, RH17 6SQ, centred on NGR 517390 194174. A small archaeological evaluation, consisting of 4 trial trenches on the proposed site of a new car park on the grounds of Ardingly College. No finds, features or deposits were revealed by the trenches. Evidence of prior stripping and modern activity found within Trenches 1 and 2, associated with work involved with the construction of boarding houses in 2002-3. The evaluation has been successful in fulfilling the aims and objectives as set out in the WSI. No archaeological finds, features or deposits were recorded during the evaluation, with evidence of previous truncation recorded within Trenches 1 and 2 and undisturbed natural deposits recorded in Trenches 3 and 4, comprising topsoil deposits directly overlying natural geology.
