Electrophilic annulation efficiently synthesizes sulfenylated indoles in various substrates, highlighting a metal-free approach.
An electrophilic annulation of o‐alkynylanilines was developed employing organosulfenyl chloride (RSCl) generated in situ from diorganyl disulfides and PhICl2 in CH3CN at room temperature. In addition, beyond o‐alkynylanilines, o‐alkynylanisoles and methyl(2‐(phenylethynyl)phenyl)sulfide were also effective substrates when treated with this system. This metal‐free method provides rapid access to a wide range of sulfenylated indoles, benzofurans, and benzothiophenes. The protocol features simple operation, mild conditions, broad substrate scope, and excellent functional group tolerance.
