Evaluates archaeological remains in Berkshire, indicating limited presence and post-medieval features.
The archaeological mitigation comprised the evaluation of a total of 8 out of the 14 proposed mitigation areas, consisting of the investigation and recording of a total of 38 trial trenches (35 measuring 30 m by 1.80 m and 3 measuring 20 m by 1.80 m). Due to ecological and logistical constraints, 36 out of the proposed 38 trial trenches were investigated and recorded (34 measuring 30 m by 1.60 m, and 2 measuring 20 m by 1.60 m). Where trenches could not be excavated, other forms of archaeological mitigation, such as a programme of AMR, have been proposed. Ten of the thirty-six excavated trial trenches contained archaeological features and deposits, indicating a limited presence of archaeological remains across the site, with a concentration of archaeology in Area 3. Majority of uncovered features comprising ditches and gullies remain of uncertain date. Features that contained datable evidence represent post-medieval period of activity.
