Examines trade policy reforms enhancing global value chain integration in Morocco, suggesting benefits and ongoing challenges.
This paper examines how Morocco's trade policy evolved after joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995. It analyzes the country's tariff reductions, trade facilitation reforms, and WTO commitments, and evaluates their impact on Morocco's integration into global value chains (GVCs). The study finds that trade liberalization, combined with industrial policies and foreign investment incentives, helped Morocco develop competitive automotive and aerospace industries, diversify exports, and become more integrated into international supply chains. At the same time, Morocco continues to balance openness with selective protection through non-tariff measures and anti-dumping policies.
