Evaluates the impact of a clinician educator program on career growth in junior radiologists, suggesting potential for midcareer offerings.
The ARRS Clinician Educator Development Program (CEDP), a 1-day hands-on workshop geared toward junior faculty, has been offered annually since its beginning in 2008. The course structure features a mixture of didactic presentations and multiple interactive components, including a focus on technologic innovations in education, and is designed to assist junior faculty radiologists who are pursuing a career in education. To obtain feedback regarding the current CEDP and to gauge interest in a midcareer-focused offering, we surveyed prior participants of the program, receiving a 32% response rate. Of the former participants, 92% thought that the CEDP had a net positive impact on their career growth, with 46% claiming a “key” or “major” impact of the CEDP on their career trajectory. A total of 81% of respondents expressed interest in attending a more advanced, midcareer-focused CEDP course if it were offered during the ARRS Annual Meeting. These results, in conjunction with continued demand exceeding course capacity, suggest that such a program is perceived as desirable for career development, can positively impact career trajectory, and might have relevance for midcareer faculty members engaged in the education mission, if offered in a more advanced form.
