Demonstrates enhanced image quality in underwater imaging, suggesting improved analysis capabilities.
Images taken in a complete hydrological environment is of very low contrast and tend to face distortion in colour, as there is a scattering and absorption of light while passing through water. For meaningful image interpretation and analysis, image dehazing and enhancement is inevitably essential. We propose an algorithm for image dehazing based on deformation of haze imaging model by estimating histogram intensity of dark channel prior of hazy image followed by finding atmospheric light and transmission map from which dehazed image is obtained. Effectiveness of the algorithm is computed using qualitative image analysis. Qualitative metrics namely no-reference metrics (NIQE, PIQE and BRISQUE) and underwater image Quality metrics (UCIQE, UIQM and CCF) are measured and comparative analysis is presented implying that the proposed algorithm works well for selected underwater image dataset.
