Case study examines effective interventions for managing behavioural challenges in individuals with Prader-Willi Syndrome, suggesting tailored strategies.
Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) is a rare genetic disorder that manifests with behavioural, cognitive, and physiological challenges, including poor impulse control, skin-picking, sleep disturbances, and emotional dysregulation. This paper explores strategies for managing behavioural challenges in individuals with PWS through the application of Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) and person-centred care. Using the case study of Stephen Willis, a thirteen-year-old teenager with PWS, this paper highlights evidence-based strategies, including routine implementation, emotional regulation, management of self-harm behaviours, and therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and behavioural therapy. The discussion integrates current research and practice frameworks to provide holistic recommendations for supporting individuals with PWS.
