Post-excavation assessment uncovers various archaeological activities in a pipeline corridor, suggesting significant historical use of the land.
Strip, map and excavated areas following the evaluation stage A moderate amount of archaeology was excavated and recorded in these areas of the project, including: A minor background of prehistoric (Bronze Age to Iron Age) activity including pits, postholes and ditches. Roman activity in one area comprising a ditch system, pits and postholes and an urned cremation burial. A possible four-post structure was also recorded. Singificant levels of medieval activity: pits, wells, postholes, significant multi-phased ditch systems. The results of this stage will be assessed considering the Research Framework following the completion of fieldwork on all areas within the pipeline project.
