Demonstrates improved corrosion and wear resistance in polymeric coatings, suggesting effective protection strategies.
The intricate corrosion environment necessitates the polymeric coating's adaptability to the surroundings. In this work, the integration of rare‐earth Ce(III) ions and ethylene diamine tetramethylene phosphonic acid (EDTMP) in a layered double hydroxide (LDH) material is developed to enhance the corrosion protection and anti‐wear properties of polymeric coating. Therefore, ZnAlCe‐EDTMP (ZACE) was successfully prepared and verified by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscope (SEM) characterizations. Waterborne epoxy resin (WEP) coating incorporating ZACE (ZACE/WEP) displayed the maximum low‐frequency impedance modulus value (1.58 × 10 9 Ω cm 2 ) after 50‐day immersion, achieving two orders of magnitude increase relative to the pristine WEP coating. The incorporation of Ce(III) and EDTMP into the LDH structure played a pivotal role in this enhancement. Meanwhile, ZACE/WEP coating exhibited active corrosion protection and electrochemical recovery. In the tribological evaluation, ZACE/WEP coating reduced the wear rate by 60% compared to Blank WEP coating. Meanwhile, a detailed analysis of the anti‐corrosion mechanism of ZACE/WEP coating was executed and the polymeric coating's corrosion resistance was substantially improved by the synergistic effect between Ce(III) and EDTMP.
