Demonstrates improved voltage gain and efficiency in solar PV systems, suggesting a viable converter design.
Several dc‐dc converters are proposed over the years for PV systems with an emphasis on high voltage gain, efficiency, and voltage stress. The challenges of the reported converters are to have large inductor size and high voltage stress. In this paper, a novel non isolated active switched inductor based dc‐dc converter based on the extended switched capacitors network is proposed. The proposed converter is designed to reduce the inductor size to lowest among various converters. Moreover, the proposed converter achieves lower voltage stress across the semiconductor devices, lower voltage stress across capacitors, and high voltage gain. In addition, both the inductor share similar current, which helps in achieving the current balance that reduces the power loss in the inductor and switches. To analyze the performance of the proposed converter, a detailed analysis is performed. The proposed converter voltage gain and efficiency is analyzed by considering the parasitics. To prove the suitability of the converter, proposed converter is compared with various topologies. To carry out the experimental analysis, the proposed converter is operated in order to achieve ten times voltage gain. The converter is designed to have 200‐V output voltage and 200‐W output power for a 20‐V input. The dynamic model of the proposed converter is developed to design the closed loop control of the converter. The proposed converter is validated in experiment for both open loop and closed loop performance.
