Presentation explores semantic links between research data repositories using federated SPARQL queries, highlighting tools for better data integration.
This event is split into two parts: a presentation and demo session, aside discussion. In our presentation, we provide an insight into semantic mappings in the context of federated SPARQL queries across distributed and heterogeneous research data repositories. In a brief demonstration, we will also showcase a mapping tool currently being developed within the NFDI framework. We begin by introducing federated SPARQL queries and highlighting typical challenges, particularly when data from different sources needs to be combined. This highlights the role of mappings, which bridge semantic differences between data sources.Building on this, we explain what is meant by mappings, the forms they can take, and how they are created, verified, maintained and shared. Our aim is to establish a common and easily understandable basic understanding. We will then present key tools from the NFDI context, including the terminology service and a mapping tool currently available via its sandbox. The tool’s most important functions will be demonstrated in a practical session. This talk was held in the course of the DAPHNE4NFDI TA1 Data for science lecture series on May, 5 2026 and funded by the NFDI4Energy consortium
