This comprehensive review discusses MXenes and their potential in energy storage technologies, addressing challenges and future directions.
Their exceptional hydrophilicity, high negative zeta‐potential, outstanding thermal and electrical conductivity, and mechanical qualities that are on pace with those of the carbides and nitrides of the parent transition metal, MXenes are transition metal carbides and nitrides in two dimensions, have recently drawn notice as a miraculous material offering newer possibilities. These characteristics of MXenes can be applied to energy conversion and storage, among other societal uses. In this targeted analysis, we offer a quick look at the MXene family's evolutionary history as well as the numerous global initiatives aimed at improving performance and properties as energy storage material. Furthermore, this work outlines key structure–property relationships and design strategies to accelerate the development of high‐performance MXene‐based energy devices. This study places particular attention on educating readers about MXene's bright future in energy conversion and storage, which is a timely remedy for the current climate change crisis. This work integrates insights from density functional theory and molecular simulations with a critical evaluation of industrialization prospects and commercial viability, providing a comprehensive perspective from fundamental understanding to real‐world application. In order to develop resilient energy solutions, the review ends by providing new insights into the difficulties and research needs of future.
