This investigation shows oxygen insulation properties of (5RE 0.2)TaO4 in thermal barrier coatings, suggesting improved thermal performance.
High oxygen ion conductivity is one of the primary reasons for thermal barrier coating failure. Rare-earth tantalates is a highly promising class of TBC materials, this study investigates the oxygen insulation properties of (5RE 0.2 )TaO 4 based on previous work. Results demonstrate that (5RE 0.2 )TaO 4 was successfully synthesized via the solid-state method, and the oxygen ion conductivity of (5RE 0.2 )TaO 4 is reduced about five orders of magnitude in comparison to that of 8YSZ.
