Evaluates accuracy of diagnostic codes for food allergy in children, indicating need for better classification.
Background: Food protein–induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) is a non–IgE-mediated gastrointestinal food allergy and is increasingly recognized, especially in pediatric populations. In Japan, FPIES-related claims are typically recorded under ICD-10 code K52.2, a heterogeneous category. This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of ICD-10 code K52.2 and related claims-based information for identifying true FPIES in administrative data.
