Explores a new method to create selenoglycosides, suggesting broader applications in pharmaceuticals.
A general and mild copper-catalyzed strategy is described for the synthesis of structurally diverse (hetero)aryl and alkenyl selenoglycosides. This protocol utilizes bench-stable glycosyl selenosulfonates as electrophilic donors, enabling the direct coupling of nucleophilic (het)aryl/alkenyl boronic acids and esters, thereby significantly expanding the chemical space of selenoglycosides. The synthetic utility of the method is highlighted by the successful construction of a clinical SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin analogue.
