Article discusses experiences and challenges faced in the first 100 days as a board member with implications for effective engagement.
This article discusses the author's experiences during his first 100 days as board member of Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) in the U.S. One of the challenges I faced was trying to understand where people are located in this maze of overlapping organizations and networks. During my first-100 days, about 32 percent of my time was devoted to meetings of three or more people; about 18 percent was devoted to discussions with at least one other individual; and about six percent was devoted to informal time with board members and staff.
