Highlights improved security and data integrity in cyber-physical systems using blockchain identity management.
With the rapid development of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), cloud security issues are becoming increasingly prominent, especially in identity management. In CPS, object identity information not only affects system security but also directly affects data integrity and reliability. Traditional identity management methods often fail to meet the security needs of massive devices, leading to many security risks such as identity fraud and data breaches. Therefore, building a secure and reliable identity management mechanism is particularly important for enhancing CPS security. To address the security challenges in CPS, we propose a new blockchain-based decentralized identity management framework to enhance CPS security. Specifically, we first design a hybrid storage architecture to store identity information and associated industrial data. To address the semantic limitations of standard identities, we design an ontology-based DID structure for the cryptographic binding of hierarchical relationships. Furthermore, a generic decentralized identity data structure, Semantic-Aware Hierarchical Merkle Tree(SAHMT), is proposed to enable verifiable query of identity and associated industrial data. The evaluation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed system.
