Survey reveals perceived benefits of accounting honors programs among faculty, recruiters, and students; indicating broad support.
The purpose of this paper is to provide additional evidence concerning the benefits of honors programs in accounting. Faculty, public accounting recruiters, and honors students were surveyed to determine their perceptions of the benefits of an honors program in accounting. Faculty respondents exhibited disagreement with the suggestion that honors programs are an inducement in the recruitment and retention of strong faculty. Further, respondents exhibited only weak agreement with the propositions that honors programs enhance leadership skills, improve adaptability to real-world environments, or accelerate professional advancement. In the main, however, responses from all three groups evidence strong agreement with most of the benefits attributed to honors programs in accounting in earlier research.
