The paper analyzes control and security challenges in microcomputer usage within local area networks, highlighting implications for wider adoption.
Control and security issues for microcomputer usage in local area networks (LANs) are discussed. First, the general control environment of microcomputers is reviewed. A description of LANs that includes alternative developments is provided for those unfamiliar with LANs. Then, control and security issues for standard LANs are presented. To enhance the author's view of the importance of and, consequently, the cause for concern of control and security of LANs, an analysis of a popular commercially available LAN is provided. Finally, problems hindering widespread acceptance of LANs are reviewed.
