Explores emotional intelligence levels in nursing students, suggesting curriculum improvements for better patient care.
This research study is an earnest attempt to explore the key dimensions of Emotional Intelligence (EI) among professional nursing students studying in various nursing colleges in Trichur District, Kerala. Although Emotional Intelligence is a crucial attribute and an indispensable factor for a successful nursing career, the current curriculum of professional nursing education does not give specific attention to fostering this important trait among trainees. The study reveals that professional nursing students in the state exhibit a deficiency in Emotional Intelligence, which may adversely affect their professional competence, interpersonal relationships and patient care outcomes. The findings underscore the urgent need to incorporate structural interventions, training modules and experimental learning strategies within the nursing curriculum to enhance Emotional Intelligence among students.
