Investigates electrochemical sensing and degradation of pentachlorophenol in composites, indicating enhanced performance with specific metal porphyrins.
This study presents the Co and Zn complexes of reported symmetrical tetra-4-hydropxyphenyl porphyrin ( P2 ) and newly synthesized tris-[3-(hydroxy)-Mono-1-methylthiophenyl]porphyrins ( P1 ), along with their conjugation to TiO 2 -graphene quantum dots conjugates(TiG) nanoparticles. These complexes/composites were applied for the first time in the electrochemical sensing and photoelectrodegradation of pentachlorophenol (PCP). The electrochemical sensing results revealed that cobalt-metalated porphyrins exhibited higher electrocatalytic rates and lower limits of detection (LoD) compared to their zinc counterparts. Conjugation with TiG significantly enhanced the electrocatalytic performance of both P1 and P2 metalated porphyrins. In photoelectrodegradation studies, Zn-TiG composites outperformed Co-TiG systems, achieving higher removal efficiencies and catalytic rates. The addition of H 2 O 2 further increased the removal efficiency beyond 90%.
