Computer-based or digital interfaces such as computer-based procedures, soft controls, and information flat panel displays are being adopted in advanced control rooms. Human reliability analysis is used for identifying risk-significant human actions and assessing their probability of failure under working conditions including human-computer interfaces. This study aims to compare the methodological characteristics of two recent HRA methods for digitalized control rooms, EMBRACE and the EPRI HRA method, in terms of their methodological frameworks and data structures through a case study on advanced control room operator actions. The critical operator action selected in this study is the feed and bleed operation that is required under two different scenario conditions. For both scenario conditions, task analysis and timeline analysis, identification of critical action steps, and cognitive error identification and quantification of their probability are performed in a step-by-step way, and the results are compared in the methodological aspects between two methods. The study discusses the key methodological characteristics of two methods, identified through the case analyses, and suggests potential improvements.
