This article explores how translation shapes creative expression in various language modalities, suggesting new insights into communication.
I work as a Visual Sign Choreographer. My practice is deeply rooted in translation – between sign, text, and speech. These different language modalities feel like different worlds to me, and moving between them shapes how I think, create, and perform. In my work, translation is not just a tool, but a method: a continuous back and forth between movement, writing, and signing. Through this process, meaning shifts, expands, and sometimes transforms. It is within these translations that Visual Sign Choreography emerges.
