First report of Thrips parvispinus presence in Texas, indicating a potential widespread distribution.
Thrips parvispinus (Karny) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) is an invasive thrips species native to Southeast Asia, affecting ornamental and vegetable crops. Over the past three decades, this species has considerably expanded its global distribution, including the United States. Thrips samples collected from 12 locations across Texas from plants exhibiting foliage injury in greenhouse facilities, large retail outlets, and community gardens confirmed the presence of T. parvispinus in November of 2025. Detections from multiple counties in Texas suggest that T. parvispinus has been introduced to multiple locations and may be widely distributed in the state. Here, we document the first record of T. parvispinus in Texas and provide a baseline for future monitoring and management efforts.
