Investigates acceleration impacts on grain warehouse structures in varying soil conditions, suggesting critical design considerations.
To investigate the influence of soil-structure interaction (SSI) on the acceleration of a multi-floored grain warehouse structure and its stored grain on soft soil foundations, a 1:16 scale model of the multi-story warehouse was designed, and shaking table tests were conducted on both soft and rigid foundations. The results show that soft soil sites amplify seismic waves, with the amplification being more significant when the peak ground acceleration (PGA) is low. Under small earthquake input conditions, the SSI effect amplifies both the multi-floored grain warehouse structure and the stored grain. The presence of the stored grain and different site conditions both affect the acceleration response of the multi-floored grain warehouse, and these responses change with variations in PGA.
