Proposing a new framework to improve nurse faculty satisfaction and reduce burnout through values alignment.
Background Nurse faculty shortages and increased levels of reported burnout are negatively affecting the nursing workforce and impacting healthcare. Nurse faculty struggle to balance all aspects of their role, including scholarship/research, teaching, service, and practice, along with their personal values, which can contribute to feelings of burnout. Problem Traditional models for supporting nurse faculty professional development and evaluation fail to incorporate personal values and do not include practice as its own component of the faculty role. Approach This article presents the quadripartite Values-Based Nurse Faculty Success Model (VBNFSM), a new framework for nurse faculty that includes a central personal values-based core and adds a practice-based component. Conclusion The VBNFSM offers a potential antidote to burnout as a guide to increased satisfaction through role harmony.
