Nematological survey reveals Longidorus iranicus in Armenia, suggesting its distribution extends beyond known regions.
During a nematological survey in the southern part of Armenia, the species Longidorus iranicus Sturhan & Barooti, 1983 was found in the rhizosphere of apple trees in the Syunik region. The morphological characters and morphometrics of this population were similar to those of other populations of this species from Iran, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia, and Slovenia. Molecular analysis of the sequences of the D2-D3 expansion segments of the 28S rRNA gene also showed high similarity with the sequences of this species from Iran, Greece, and Slovenia. Thus, this is the first record and molecular confirmation of Longidorus iranicus from Armenia.
