Investigation reveals nonlinear excitations in a dust particle chain, suggesting insights for dusty plasma research.
We investigate the propagation and spatiotemporal evolution of several fundamental nonlinear excitations in a one-dimensional chain of dust particles. Using the standard reductive perturbation method, a nonlinear Schrödinger equation is derived for the dust lattice system, demonstrating that the lattice supports a variety of nonlinear coherent structures. The existence of several well-known nonlinear waves, including Kuznetsov–Ma breathers, bright solitons, Akhmediev breathers, and rogue waves, is verified through molecular dynamics simulations. The numerical results further reveal the detailed spatiotemporal evolution of these nonlinear excitations. Excellent agreement is obtained between the numerical simulations and the corresponding analytical predictions. The present study provides a useful framework for understanding the formation and evolution of nonlinear structures in dusty plasma experiments, particularly the nonlinear phenomena observed in dusty plasma crystals under microgravity conditions aboard the International Space Station.
