Systematic literature review assesses cassava waste for bioplastics, suggesting environmental benefits.
Conventional plastics are a major contributor to environmental pollution due to their non-biodegradable nature. This study aims to assess the potential of cassava waste as a raw material for bioplastic production through a systematic literature review. The findings indicate that cassava waste contains a high starch content, making it a promising matrix for bioplastic formation. The production process involves starch extraction, mixing, heating, casting, and drying. The resulting bioplastics demonstrate excellent biodegradability; however, they exhibit limitations in mechanical strength and water resistance.
