Implication

Randomized trial analyzes phylogenetic relationships in underground beetles, revealing evolutionary histories.

Key Points

  • This work aims to clarify the phylogenetic position of rare subterranean ground beetles using museomics.
  • Assembled two molecular datasets: mitochondrial protein-coding genes and rRNA genes.
  • Estimated divergence times using a Bayesian relaxed-clock model in BEAST.
  • Extracted, amplified, and sequenced historical specimens successfully from natural history collections.
  • Ifridytes is strongly associated with Sphodrini (likely related to Sphodrina).
  • Subilsia nests within Trechus, indicating convergent evolution of troglomorphic traits within Trechini.
