Investigates built environment effects on walking activity and quality of life in older adults, suggesting pathways for improvement.
This study investigates the mechanisms through which the built environment influences walking activity and quality of life among older adults. Taking Wenchang Garden Community in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, China as the research site, it explores the impact of the built environment on walking activity and quality of life among older adults. Utilising a random forest model and mediation analysis, a three-dimensional interactive framework linking 'built environment - walking activity - quality of life' is established. The study integrates Point of Interest (POI) data, street-level imagery, and questionnaire surveys. Building upon the random forest model, it analyses built environment indicators across four dimensions: land use, facility accessibility, road traffic, and street environment. Employing a mediation effect model, it constructs the research pathway 'built environment - walking activity - quality of life' to examine the mediating role of walking activity in the impact of the built environment on older adults' quality of life.
