Investigates fast-charging capability of Nb-NMC811 batteries, suggesting improved energy density.
High Resolution Image Download MS PowerPoint Slide Fast-charging lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have attracted considerable attention in recent years. However, a challenge remains in achieving high energy density under fast charging conditions. In this paper, a series of Nb-NMC811∥Graphite, Nb-NMC811∥Si, and Nb-NMC811∥Li cells with proper electrolytes (1 M LiPF 6 in EC/DMC, 1.2 M LiPF 6 in 88 wt % EC/EMC 3/7 (w/w) + 10 wt % FEC + 2 wt % VC and LiFSI-1.2DME-3TTE) and mass loadings (10 and 20 mg/cm 2 ) were analyzed and discussed. Nb-NMC811∥Graphite full cells exhibit excellent cycling performance under fast charging conditions (total 15 min), providing a capacity retention of 86% after 700 cycles. Nb-NMC811∥Si shows the most potential to realize fast charging with high energy density under a relatively low mass loading and thickness.
