Evaluates treatment outcomes for anxiety and depression in counseling students, indicating their effectiveness.
Anxiety and depression are the most prevalent mental health disorders among college students. Although many students receive treatment from counseling students-in-training at university-based training clinics, limited research has examined their effectiveness and efficacy. We examined treatment outcomes for anxiety and depression in a sample of 312 clients and 65 counseling students-in-training to contribute to this gap. Paired t-test compared pre- and post-treatment outcomes to evaluate effectiveness, and repeated-measured ANOVA assessed efficiency over the first five sessions. The significant findings in both effectiveness and efficacy demonstrate the quality of counseling services provided by counseling students-in-training at a training clinic.
